This online Workplace Fire Safety course takes around 60 minutes to complete.  You can skip content if you feel confident in certain areas.  But to receive your final certificate you need to pass the final quiz.

The certificate is emailed to all learners when they achieve over 80% in the final quiz.  The course is accredited by the CPD group which is reflected on the certificate.  There is also a validation code to verify completion.  The certificate remains valid for 3 years.

The fire triangle has been developed to explain how a fire starts and is sustained.

In the fire triangle, fire is a chemical reaction involving three elements. All three elements must be present in order for a fire to exist.

Oxygen

Oxygen is a gas that makes up 20% of air. Additional sources of oxygen can also be found in oxidizing substances.

Heat

Heat is the energy necessary to increase the temperature of a fuel to the point where ignition occurs. Unfortunately, the source of heat/ignition does not have to be enormous for a fire to start. It could be as simple as a smouldering cigarette, a spark from a welder or even a frayed cable.

Fuel

Anything that burns is fuel for a fire and includes flammable liquids (e.g. paints, petrol), solids (e.g. packaging materials, plastics) and gases (e.g. propane, natural gas). Some common 'fuels' found in workplaces include packaging materials, textiles and waste materials.

If one or more of these elements is eliminated, then a fire cannot start or be sustained. It is therefore in your interest to be familiar with procedures you can take to manage the elements of the fire triangle to reduce the chances of a fire occurring in the first place and how to remove an element once a fire starts
